Registered Nurse

This is a medical surgical nursing position. The unit primarily handles diagnoses such as CHF, cardiac catheterization, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, orthopedic issues, and oncology. Patients may require care for various conditions, including step-down type patients when floating to critical care. Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:5-6 for both day and night shifts, with the possibility of an occasional increase in patients depending on acuity. All units utilize nurse aides for assistance. There is a charge nurse on duty for every unit, with day charge nurses not taking patients while night charge nurses do. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7, although nurses are responsible for aerosol treatments for non-vented patients and EKGs. An IV team is available house-wide during specified hours.
