Job Description
The perfusionist operates the cardiopulmonary bypass equipment for cardiac surgery. This entails assembly of required equipment, calculation of perfusion parameters, including the determination of appropriate medication, fluids and blood constituents for the prime solution. During bypass the perfusionist will monitor and adjust parameters accordingly to maintain desired hemodynamics, blood gases, electrolytes, cerebral oxygen saturations and coagulation parameters.
