Packaging Sciences Apprentice: R&D + Analytical Chemistry

This position will be based in Sonoco’s R&D centre in Wantage working as an integral part of the Packaging Sciences Department, reporting to one of the Packaging Sciences Team Leaders. The role involves working across the R&D group to support the assessment of packaging components, analysis of the materials used, and the products packed within them. Along side workplace activities, the role involves the successful completion of the part‑time distance learning Chemical Science BSc Hons degree run by Manchester Metropolitan University.

The role will primarily involve supporting packaging and materials assessment and problem‑solving activities whilst completing a part‑time distance learning Chemical Science Degree at Manchester Metropolitan University. The role will also involve supporting other R&D activities as required.

Pack Testing

• Prepare model products to standard recipes and pack cans (filling, seaming and cooking) to industry standards
