Lifeguard (Seasonal)

The work involves responsibility for looking after the safety and welfare of swimmers at a public swimming pool. The work is carried out in accordance with well-established standard water safety and lifesaving practices and procedures and involves primarily the patrol of the swimming area at a public pool and remaining vigilant at all times for emergencies requiring his/her attention. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a higher-ranking recreation employee or program administrator with leeway allowed and expected for the exercise of independent and sound judgment in emergency situations. Does related work as required.



TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES


+ Stands watch or patrols swimming pool area, keeping swimmers within bounds and going to their aid when they are in difficulty;

+ Applies resuscitation techniques and otherwise renders first aid as needed;
