Responsibilities

There is emerging acknowledgement of the role of social protection to strengthen climate resilience in climate change and Agenda 2030 related intergovernmental processes. ESCAP member States adopted a Decision at the eighth session of the Committee on Social Development that underscored the need to strengthen national capacity on social protection and to foster more resilient societies and promote a just transition to a sustainable future (ESCAP/CSD(8)/6).

ESCAP is implementing an initiative on Climate Resilient Inclusive Social Protection (CRISP), pioneering action in this emerging area for the Asia-Pacific region to strengthen capacity, build a regional knowledge base and enhance regional collaboration for improved coherence between social protection and climate policies.
