Position Summary
This recruitment is for a student research assistant (a maximum of 24 hours per week during academic terms and a maximum of 40 hours per week during academic breaks) in a program investigating Phytophthora epidemiology and management, particular of those species impacting woody horticultural crops and native forests (for example: Phytophthora ramorum).Research duties include the transfer and maintenance of plant pathogen cultures of fungi and oomycetes, inoculation of plants, experiment set-up, data collection, and data entry. The student will also perform basic lab maintenance (dish washing, agar media preparation) and greenhouse (fertilizing, up-potting) tasks. Opportunities to assist researchers in sample and data collection at remote field locations are available. Depending on the students’ ability to meet/exceed the expectations of this position, opportunities to perform an independent project may be presented.
