Dentist Scope of Work for Indiana Veterans’ Home

•Providers focus on age-related dental issues, managing conditions like Alzheimer’s, and treating patients onsite at Indiana Veterans’ Home 1-2 days a week (up to 8 hours total). 

• Conduct initial oral assessments and interpreting portable radiographs.

• Designing daily mouth care plans and overseeing fluoride applications or cleanings. 

• Performing fillings, treating periodontal disease, extracting loose/decaying teeth, and repairing or relining dentures.

• Prescribing necessary antibiotics or analgesics and coordinating with the facility's medical staff regarding polypharmacy (managing dry mouth and side effects of resident medications). 

• Assessing resident oral health using standardized nursing facility assessment tools to maintain regulatory compliance.
