111 Police Emergency Communicator

Overview

New Zealand Police Police Emergency Communicator is a permanent full‑time shift position based in Wellington CBD. The role is part of the 111 call centre, where you will provide the first line of support to people in distress. Training is paid for over nine weeks, after which staff receive a base salary of $72,112NZD.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the first point of contact for callers to 111, delivering a calm, reassuring voice.
• Assess the situation and make decisions rapidly under high-pressure circumstances.
• Provide guidance and support to callers dealing with violence, suicide, sexual assault, sudden deaths, rescue situations and other emergencies.
• Work within 24/7, 365‑day operations, following a 6‑on/4‑off shift pattern with early‑morning, late‑afternoon and evening starts.
